Recently Disability Advocacy Service received a memo from the Department of Health outlining this proposed support programme – the programme relates to older Australians who currently receive specialist disability services and who will NOT be eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
The Council of Australian Governments all agree that as the NDIS rolls out nationally, it is a priority to ensure continuing support for older people with disability who are not eligible for the NDIS. This Commonwealth Continuity of Support (COS) will provide support to older people with disability, either through existing aged care programme such as the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, or through a new Commonwealth Continuity of Support Programme.
This new programme will be phased across the Northern Territory commencing on the 1st January 2017.
More details as they become available.
